What is Fantazom?

Fantazom is a derivative of the Greek word for imagination. It is a site designed to let that imagination run free. At Fantazom, e-books are posted for free and are all available to be read for free. Advertising is added to each book in a way that doesn’t distract while allowing aspiring storytellers the ability to make money. Fantazom: Imagine. Create. Share.

 

How much does it cost readers to join Fantazom and read for free?

Nothing. Readers simply create an account, answer a few questions and start reading. We never share the information provided by readers or writers with anyone.

 

Who owns the rights to books published on Fantazom?

At Fantazom, authors maintain ownership and control of their books until they decide to sell the rights to Fantazom or to someone else.

 

What happens when an author who publishes on Fantazom is offered a traditional publishing contract?

We celebrate that exciting news! Any author on Fantazom may discontinue publishing any or all items they published on Fantazom at any time. We recommend that the author or rights owner consider maintaining publication on Fantazom as we may provide an excellent revenue source.

 

Can an author who is represented by a literary agent publish on Fantazom?

Yes. And agents who recommend a novel may be able to receive payment for representing the author of that work.

 

Do I need an agent to publish on Fantazom?

No. Any author who has completed a novel may publish on Fantazom. We do work directly with Agents who wish to lead their authors to publish quality books on Fantazom and in those cases, we may pay the agent a royalty fee. The author receives their full share. What does it cost an author to publish on Fantazom?

There is no fee to publish on Fantazom.

 

What do I get by publishing on Fantazom?

•         FREE advertising of your book within other books read on Fantazom. Spending $100 for a year of advertising on Social Media or search engines, you would receive maybe a few hundred ads and those ads would reach a variety of people who may or may not be interested in reading. At Fantazom, we provide virtually unlimited advertising to people doing EXACTLY what you want them to do – read! Your book is specifically advertised in multiple chapters of other books, giving readers the opportunity to add your book to their read list.

•         Part of what makes Fantazom work for you is the readers read for free. They never pay a fee of any kind and they never have to guess if a book will suit them. To make that possible, each book includes advertisements from various sources chosen at the discretion of Fantazom. In addition, each book also includes advertising of other books published on Fantazom. The relevant book ads will show based on criteria the reader selects and lead readers right to you.

•         Analytics. We provide you with information to help you be more successful. How many people have seen your book? How many have read your blurb? How many of those continued to read your book-jacket? Did they read your book? Complete it? We can report these things, and more to you to help make potential adjustments that will help you succeed.

Can I pay more to give my books preferential placement in search results?

No. The primary search results are based on several complex factors including number of readers, reader-reviews and criteria matching. There is no fee paid to Fantazom, the ultimate key to search result success is readers. The work creates its own positive search results. You can improve your search-result placement simply by getting everyone you can to find your book and read it. It is free to them! Also, our secondary search results ensure that your book shows up in the first-page results of readers. “Some books are seen by all, all books are seen by some.”

 

Why was Fantazom created?

Each day, agents and publishers who must put profits first reject hundreds of quality books. The creators of Fantazom found a way to let the reader decide the value of a book. For free.

 

Fantazom is the triple-A minor leagues of the book business. Those who publish here have done the work to create a finished manuscript and those who succeed here will have a more direct path to the big leagues. Our reporting and relationships with publishers and agents mean we can help you find a traditional publishing deal at no cost to you.

 

In addition, we know that the printed book business will go on and have no expectations to change that. We simply know that providing a free option to read e-books is our small part in a movement to soften the impact of paper books on the environment.

 

Who can publish on Fantazom?

Almost anyone who has competed a novel can publish on Fantazom. You must be of legal age to sign a contract or have a legal guardian sign for you.

 

What does Fantazom offer readers?

FREE BOOKS. We can stop there but there is so much more. The innovative search process on Fantazom makes it easy for readers to find books they want to read. The reader can build a personal library based on genre, keywords and even search some pre-determined selections that provide the absolute best results.

 

Books can be read online or downloaded and all books published on Fantazom can be read for free. There is no better draw than free books and to make it even better, if a reader prefers to read without ads, they can try out a book for free and if they like it, they can purchase the digital book without ads at any time.

 

Is the advertising intrusive and annoying to the reader?

No. Our ads do not move or in any way inhibit the flow of reading. The ads are based on preferences the reader gives us and we work hard to make them relevant. We are constantly evaluating how to best serve our readers, authors and advertisers. If changes are made to how ads are presented, we will update the terms and conditions and notify you.

 

How have readers responded to reading books with ads?

Overwhelmingly positive. Advertising is certainly the norm for most media. Social media, blogs, commercials on radio and television, product placement and commercials preceding movies are not only accepted, they are celebrated with awards. There are of course those who resist change and they will continue to read paper books and that is not something we expect to change.

 

If books are read for free, how do authors make money on Fantazom?

Advertising. We created a way for readers to read your book and as they do, they see digital image ads. Nothing that moves or is too distracting and advertisers love it because the reader sees the ads throughout the entire book. The ads change each chapter but never interfere with reading.

 

Fantazom published books that are advertised in other books on Fantazom do not directly generate income for the author or agents. The book ads are designed to lead readers to more free books that they will love.

 

As the ad-supported reads and sales of a particular book grow, the book will be seen in more search results, potentially leading to more reads and sales and more revenue.

 

Does Fantazom guarantee an author will sell a lot of books?

No. Fantazom does however provide you an incredible opportunity to do so by providing targeted advertising of your book and many more benefits that provide tools for you to succeed. Get everyone you know to read your book for free [or purchase it] and your book will improve in search results and more people will read it.

 

Does Fantazom demand exclusive publishing rights?

No. We have two goals. To give writers an opportunity to make money and to give readers a way to read great books for free. Authors are free to publish at other sites at their discretion. It is logical that other sites will not allow that since at Fantazom readers read for free. Once a book is published on Fantazom the author may at any time discontinue the publication of that book.

 

When I publish on Fantazom, will my book become less valuable to a traditional publisher?

Almost certainly not. Fantazom will gladly provide you with sales reports that you can use to demonstrate the value of your books to other publishers. If your book has done well on Fantazom, other publishers will take notice and your value to the traditional publisher will increase.

 

In the event that you sell your rights for a traditional publishing deal, that you consider using Fantazom as the sole source for your digital books. People will still be able to read for free and they can also purchase without ads and we will be able to pay royalties to the rights owner.

 

Unless you decide to sell us the rights to your book, we never assume ownership of your books you are free at any time to discontinue publishing on Fantazom and we will celebrate with you as you embark on your traditional publishing journey.

 

If Fantazom will publish basically any author, how do you maintain quality?

The most important part to this answer is that quality is in the eyes of the reader. Hundreds of great selling books were rejected multiple times before a reader ever had a chance to see them. Our primary goal is to provide authors the chance to make money from their craft while offering readers a chance to read these great books for free.

 

The readers read for free so if they are not enjoying a book they are reading, they are free to stop reading at no cost to the reader.

 

In the end, books that readers enjoy will find their way to the top of search results and authors of books that are not well received will receive positive feedback to help them make appropriate changes. The reader never loses because it’s free.

 

Can Authors Publish Partially Written Books to Gather Feedback?

No. Fantazom is a place for original and completed works by the submitting author or the copyright owner. If you publish an unfinished book on Fantazom it will be removed from circulation and you may re-upload that book when it is completed.

 

Can I publish public domain books on Fantazom?

No. All books published on Fantazom must be submitted but the original author of the work, or the exclusive owner of the electronic rights of the work.

 

What other types of books will be excluded by Fantazom?

Our world is full of conflicting beliefs and we celebrate that diversity. We do not intend to limit the ideals of those who publish on Fantazom but we reserve the right to remove from circulation any book that suggests or advocates criminal behavior or violence against any person or persons.

 

We also will not publish books that are not owned by the submitting author, for it to appear on Fantazom it must be legal and original work by the submitting author, or the owner of the rights to publish the electronic version of the book.

 

Beyond that, authors will be required to place their works in appropriate genres and given the opportunity to further define their work with declared content, key words and plot points. If an author misrepresents their work it will be removed from publication and the author who uploaded the book will be solely responsible for any and all financial repercussions.

 

A literary agent is offering me representation. What do you think about literary agents?

Literary agents are a wonderful part of the book business and can be a great resource for you. A good literary agent may provide business management, literary direction and friendship as you develop your craft and the business of selling books.

 

As your agent seeks to find you traditional publishing, while you own the rights to your story, you are free to publish on Fantazom. If your agent submits you to Fantazom and agrees to the terms, we may pay them a percentage of your earnings while you maintain your standard amount as shown in our Royalties and Payments Section.

 

As a book reviewer, can I review books on Fantazom?

Not at this time, however this function may be made available in the future.

 

How does Fantazom work with traditional book publishers?

Fantazom allows any legal owner of book rights to publish on our site. Once ownership is established we will arrange for payments to be made directly to the owner of rights including traditional book publishers.

 

Why would a publisher work with Fantazom?

Free books that generate income for the author can also generate income for a publisher who owns the rights to publish. We are happy to publish books for any owner of rights.

 

Does Fantazom allow only self-published authors whose works are not owned by a publisher?

Fantazom allows anyone’s content, provided the author or publisher is legally entitled to publish with us, and provided the work satisfies our standards for originality. We welcome the opportunity to show self-published authors, unpublished authors, authors of out-of-print books for whom the rights have reverted, and authors under contract with third party publishers. If you own the digital publishing rights to digital books, we want to publish you.

 

What does Fantazom think about digital rights management (DRM)?

DRM is not particularly important on Fantazom but we are intent on protecting the intellectual property of our authors. Our books are already free to the readers and our files are designed to be read online at Fantazom or via our reader app. Publication on Fantazom does not mean a reader is free to assume ownership of that intellectual property.

 

Do I need to copyright my work prior to publishing with Fantazom?

We recommend that at some point you register for a copyright. If you are the author of an original work, then many copyright laws automatically give you copyright of the work. Can I publish my book in print as well?

As long as you own your book, Fantazom does not restrict where you can publish your book. Print publishing is more complicated, expensive and time-consuming than ebook publishing. Also, since most self-published authors are unable to get brick and mortar bookstore distribution, it's tougher to reach readers. For reasons like those, many indie authors now skip print entirely. If you do decide to publish in print, consider starting out with a free print on demand service rather than filling your house with a large and expensive run of unsold paper books.

 

Why can't the publishing industry serve all authors?

First, we should state we are fans of the publishing industry. A good agent, editor and publisher can add a lot of value to your work. The support provided by a publisher is invaluable, especially in terms of getting your book edited, packaged and carried by bookstores. However, with fewer physical bookshelves to showcase books, it will become increasingly important for authors and publishers to replace those shelves with digital shelves.
